In 2021, during the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development, Indian Youth Cafe embarked on an ambitious, multi-year project titled “Rising and Vibing for Environment.” This initiative is a comprehensive, cross-collaborative, and multidisciplinary cultural effort aimed at addressing the triple planetary crisis: environmental degradation, climate change, and biodiversity loss. Our project not only seeks to combat these pressing issues but also aims to shed light on the ripple effects of these crises, which are manifesting as global conflicts.
A Three-Phase Approach to Environmental Action
Our project unfolds in three dynamic phases, each designed to resonate with different audiences and create a profound impact. These phases may occur simultaneously, reinforcing the urgency and interconnectedness of our mission.
EDM Playlist Inspired by Nature: Our first phase is the creation and dissemination of an Electronic Dance Music (EDM) playlist comprising over 100 nature-inspired tracks. Music has always been a powerful medium for expression, and through this playlist, we aim to channel the energy of nature into beats that inspire and motivate. This collection of tracks is more than just music; it's a call to action, encouraging listeners to connect with the environment in a meaningful way.
Global Dialogue Sessions – "Red Earth Dialogues": The second phase involves hosting global dialogue sessions under the banner of "Red Earth Dialogues." These sessions are designed to foster conversations around environmental issues, bringing together voices from around the world to discuss solutions, share experiences, and build a collective vision for a sustainable future. These dialogues are a platform for intergenerational exchange, where young people, experts, and vulnerable communities can share their perspectives and work together toward common goals.
Zero Waste ‘Regeneration Festival’: The third phase is the ‘Regeneration Festival,’ a zero-waste event that integrates music with sustainability. This festival will feature eco-style pop-up spaces showcasing local brands that weave sustainability into their business models. But it doesn’t stop there; the festival also seeks to breathe new life into underused and underserved infrastructure, rekindling connections with sites of cultural and historical importance globally. By doing so, we aim to safeguard these sites while promoting sustainable practices and celebrating creativity.
A Global Call for Intergenerational Justice
For the first time in human history, young people and vulnerable communities are raising their voices for intergenerational justice. At Indian Youth Cafe, we are amplifying these voices through a unique creative effort. Our mission is not only to bring attention to the pressing environmental issues but also to create safe and innovative avenues for stakeholders in the creative economy—whether they are beat makers, bathroom DJs, or Instagram dancers.
Mainstreaming sustainable lifestyles is everyone's responsibility, and what better way to do it than through a creative and engaging approach? Our project, "Environmental Rave," is the largest youth-led effort globally to integrate creative media into climate action. In recent years, creative environmental campaigns have proven to mobilize more people toward urgent social reform than traditional methods.
Join Us: Rise and Vibe for Nature
We believe that everyone is a stakeholder in this project. We invite global artists from the creative and cultural industries—music, visual arts, dance, spirituality—along with sustainability practitioners, urban designers, architects, young professionals, eco-centric entrepreneurs, community founders, and anyone who wishes to converge, rise, and vibe for nature. This is not just a call to action; it's an invitation to be part of a global movement that blends creativity with sustainability, pushing the boundaries of what environmental advocacy can look like.
Let's rise and vibe for the environment—not just in words, but in actions.
Yours Truly,
Sehaj Sahni
