In the ongoing effort to raise awareness and funds for nature conservation, the Museum for the United Nations – UN Live has launched an innovative global initiative called "Sounds Right." This groundbreaking project uniquely combines the power of music with the beauty of nature, using natural sounds like ocean waves, rainstorms, wind, and birdsongs to create captivating tracks. These tracks not only aim to delight listeners but also to generate significant funds for environmental preservation.
The Power of Nature in Music
"Sounds Right" brings together artists from around the world, each contributing to the initiative by integrating nature's own sounds into their music. One of the standout participants is Indian artist Anuv Jain, who has crafted a version of his track "Baarishein" using the sound of Indian rains. By doing so, Jain credits these natural sounds to "NATURE," highlighting the environment's profound influence on his work.

Jain's involvement in the initiative is a reflection of his deep connection with the natural world. In his press statement, he expressed his excitement about contributing to a project that allows him to give back to nature, which has been a source of inspiration for much of his music. "Some of my best work highlights nature as a metaphor to describe beauty," he said. The royalties generated from his track will be directed towards environmental conservation efforts, ensuring that the music directly contributes to the cause it celebrates.
A Global Collaboration for Conservation
"Sounds Right" is not just about one artist or one track; it's a global movement. Renowned artists such as David Bowie x Brian Eno, Ellie Goulding, London Grammar, Tom Walker, Blinky Bill, and many others have joined the cause. Each of these artists has created music featuring sounds from nature, and like Jain, they credit "NATURE" as a collaborator. For example, David Bowie x Brian Eno’s "Get Real" incorporates the cries of hyenas and wild pigs, while Ellie Goulding’s "Brightest Blue Nature Remix" uses sounds from the Colombian rainforest.
These tracks, now available on major streaming platforms, are more than just music—they are a call to action. When listeners play these songs, they are directly supporting conservation efforts. As Gabriel Smales, Global Program Director for Sounds Right, explains, the initiative encourages people to reflect on the value of nature and how we can do more to give back to the natural world upon which we all depend.
The Road Ahead: Ambitious Goals for Global Impact
The ambitions for "Sounds Right" are as bold as they are inspiring. The initiative aims to raise $40 million for conservation efforts over the next four years, with the hope of reaching over 600 million listeners worldwide. Beyond just listening, the project encourages fans to take active steps in conservation, such as recording morning birdsong for biomonitoring and adopting sustainable behaviors in their daily lives.
Nature, now officially recognized as an artist on streaming platforms, allows listeners to support environmental causes simply by enjoying the sounds they love. Whether it’s the soothing rhythm of waterfalls, the tranquil chirping of birds, or the powerful crash of ocean waves, every stream helps fund conservation. On April 18, 2024 this initiative marked a milestone as nature officially debuted on Spotify and other streaming platforms under the artist name NATURE, ensuring that when you listen, you’re helping protect the very source of these sounds.
Empathy, Action, and the Future of Conservation
The Museum for the United Nations – UN Live, headquartered in Copenhagen, has always sought to use pop culture as a vehicle for empathy and action. "Sounds Right" embodies this mission by bringing together the worlds of music and nature in a way that resonates with global audiences. With royalties first going to EarthPercent, a charity co-founded by Brian Eno, and then distributed by an advisory panel of experts, the funds raised will be strategically allocated to maximize their impact.
"Sounds Right" is more than just an initiative; it's a movement that invites us all to listen, reflect, and take action. By tuning into nature’s music, we can all contribute to preserving the environment for future generations. This project is a testament to the power of creativity and collaboration in addressing the critical challenges facing our planet today.
Join us in celebrating and protecting the natural world—because every beat counts.
